| Of late PDP is critical of Congress | | | Early times Report
Jammu,Dec 1: Of late the PDP supremo and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir,Mufti Mohd.Sayeed,has not concealed his anger against the Congress. During the last three years the Mufti and the PDP, Chief, Mehbooba, Mufti, have been careful in avoding any reference to the Congress even while lambasting the National Conference leadership for its poor performance when it(NC) was sharing power with the Congress.
Political sagacity demanded that whosoever criticised the coalition Government in Jammu and Kashmir for misperformance and for its failure to check corrruption, besides resolving the problem of unemployment, was supposed to hold Congress too responsible for the political and administrative mess in which the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been placed in.However,the PDP leadership,particularly the Mufti,has been berating the Congress for having remained a partner of the National Conference in escalating the level of political uncertainty and corruption.And to be specific while criticising the Congress the Mufti has chosen the row over delay in empowering Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir.The PDP leader has aired his criticism of the Congress for not having cleared reservation for SC,ST and women in Block Dvelopment Council(BDC) before the ruling coalition announced the schedule for the BDC.
Mufti Sayeed has held Congress responsible for having betrayed the state's people on the issue of empowering Panchayats.He has criticised the Congress for hoodwinking the gullible people who had faced all odds while castting their votes during the Panchayat elections. held in the state last year.He has claimed that the bogey of 73rd amendent was nothing but a gimmick to further delay empowerment of the Panchayats.He held the Congress responsible for not having raised the issue of empowering Panchayats before the election schedule was announced last year.
He also claimed that when the cabinet ,at one of its meetings last year,decided to hold the Panchayat elections the Congress ministers were present.He held the Congress,which shares power with the NC,responsible for having watched the Government to fix the date for the BDCs election without making provision for reservation for the SCs,STs and women in the Councils which had now forced the Congress to seek postponement of the BDCs election.He describes it as a shameful act on the part of the Government which had the potential of weakening the structure of democracy in Jammu and Kashmir.
What are the factors that have forced or motivated the PDP leadership to criticise the Congress too for all the ills plaguing Jammu and Kashmir ?Well the Mufti has been trying to strengthen the PDP base in the Jammu region,where the Congress has large pockets of influence.Knowing that Congress has started losing its shine and strength in the Jammu region because of its failure in fighting against regional discrimination and against delay in setting up fresh delimitation commission, the Muftis have been right in securing political and electoral gains by holding the Congress as much responsible as the NC for various ommissions and commissions.
Secondly, the Muftis had hopes that the Congress high command may opt for a change in the three year old political arrangement which could give another chance to the PDP to run the show in the state in alliance with the Congress.The Muftis seem to be convinced that the Congress high continued to oppose any change in the arrangement and in the guard.Hence the PDP leadership has been left with no option but to train its guns against the Congress too which could,as it hopes,help the Muftis to increase the number of seats in the Assembly from two to seven or eight in the next election.
In fact the PDP is keen to force the NC to be the main loser in the next Assembly election and for getting its wish fulfilled it (PDP) has opted for aiming its guns against the Congress. |
