| Tramboo's son takes out gun, police prevents shoot-out | | FCI contracts | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 1: Jammu Police today averted a major tragedy when they prevented son of an influential contractor from opening fire in the premises of Food Corporation of India at Bahu Plaza. Police sources said that before the tenders could have been opened, Haseeb Tramboo son of Zaffar Tramboo of Tramboo Transport Company, presently residing at Channi Himmat, was accompanied by his father's PSO. He pulled out latter's weapon threatening the other claimants to desist from participating in the tendering. Before the police present on the occasion could have got into the action, Tramboo waived the gun in the open and charged other members present on the spot. Police overpowered the culprit, Haseeb Tramboo and his PSO. But the two could not be arrested due to the pandemonium in the hall of the FCI. They could recover the weapon. SDPO Shamsher Singh Sambyal denied of having any information about the incident. This was refuted by sources, who said that DySP was himself on the spot and he only managed to overpower the alleged culprit while snatching the revolver. SHO Trikuta Nagar Sameer Jillani said that they have taken appropriate action. "It was in a spur of moment that the man pulled out the weapon, but police acted swiftly to snatch the revolver to avert any incident," said SHO Sameer Jillani. He also confirmed that he along with his men was on the spot and has recovered the gun which the holder of the weapon had claimed to be 'an official one". "We are in the process of verifying the fact about the actual possession of the gun and as soon as we will arrive to a conclusion, we will take the necessary action," Jillani assured. It is pertinent to mention here that the alleged accused enjoys close association with some top NC cabinet minister. And police's topsy- turvy statement on the issue before confirming the episode are straight indicators about the 'non-seriousness' of the action which otherwise could have led to grave threat to lives of many.
