| `Omar promised cabinet reshuffle to woo Cong MLAs' | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 1: Even as the Chief Minister assured cabinet reshuffle after Legislative Council elections, the Congress men may receive a shock. Reliable sources believe the government is no mood to go for the much awaited reshuffle at least for the time being. The promise of a reshuffle, political circles believe, was made to involve angry MLAs from erstwhile Doda district who have been denied representation in the cabinet. Sources in the government told Early Times that the government has no plans of going for any reshuffle as neither Congress high command nor National Conference leaders are in interested in it. "Reshuffle is a big thing not even the vacant berths in the cabinet will be fulfilled," sources added. There is nobody who could listen to these disgruntled MLAs of Congress party waiting for getting a cabinet berth for four years. The chief minister just wanted to get them in campaigning mood so that they could tell their Sarpanchs and Panchs to vote for coalition candidates. On December nearly 33000 sarpanchs and panchs will vote for four seats of legislative council and the NC-Congress coalition government is contesting this election jointly. Reacting to reports of cabinet reshuffle, Congress MLAs like Abdul Majeed Wani and Ghulam Muhammad Saroori put all their efforts to get the popular support for coalition candidates despite facing tough questions from their supporters on ground. They worked hard to impress the Chief Minister expecting a ministerial berth in lieu of their services. Even some Congress leaders know that they are being used by the coalition government for political benefit but could do nothing as everything is under the control of high command, having less interest in Jammu Kashmir at present. Congress big guns from state, who are sitting in New Delhi, also are not pushing high command for cabinet reshuffle in the state. This was disclosed by a senior Congress leader wishing anonymity. He said, "The union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who hails from Doda region, never pushed the case the high command. The blame is not only on chief minister but Azad is equally responsible." "Azad should have pursued the case of his men strongly but he deceived them by not convincing the high command,' he added. The NC leaders and ministers also are not in favour of giving the cabinet berths to Congress men. "NC leaders want to show people that whatever good has happened in the state during Omar's rule is because of NC and Congress is not involved in any such activity. They want to weaken the Congress party and make NC strong," the Congress leader said. "Giving powers to Congress men means letting no opportunity for NC men to win a seat in 2014 Assembly elections," he added. |
