| BJP alleges rigging by govt in LC polls | | "Official machinery misused to lure panchayat members" | |
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 3: The state BJP Monday accused the ruling National Conference-Congress alliance of violating the model code of conduct by misusing the official machinery during the Legislative Council polls. "We have received dozens of complaints of booth capturing and active involvement of government employees in it. The government worked entire night to use Gram Sevaks and Block Development Officers and other officials in violation of the model code of conduct to rig the polls," state BJP spokesperson Dr Nirmal Kamal told reporters here. She said that the party had been repeatedly making it clear that the government machinery was being misused and every effort made to lure the panches and sarpanches to vote in favour of the collation candidates. Flanked by BJP election incharge Bansi Lal Bharti and election cell convenor Rajinder Sharma, Kamal said, "At the very outset the BJP had been engaged in hectic campaigning for its candidates Col Uttam Singh and Rashpal Verma for J-1, J-2 MLC election for the two weeks in a very organized manner under the able capability of State President Shamsher Singh Manhas, State General Secretary (Org.) Ashok Koul and entire team constituted for election." Optimistic about the success of the candidates at the same time Dr Kamal suspected foul play as "official machinery was pressed for manoeuvring the voters to favour NC and Congress candidates." Narrating the incidents she told the reporters that one Shaukat Ali, a teacher in a Mobile School at Gujjar Kothe, Saillanjan was found influencing outside the Mahore polling station. "A lecturer Abdul Gani at Mahore and Sarpanch Kewal Singh were influencing voters at the polling station at block Mahore. Top of it Manohar Lal, Minister for Cooperatives organized a langer (free meal) within 50 yards of polling station in a temple against model code of conduct," she alleged. |
