Panchs, Sarpanchs slap Salah-ud-din

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 3: Panchs and sarpanchs have not only slapped the Hizbul Mujahideen supremo Salah-ud-din with 90 percent polling in the MLC elections but have taken sting out of his threat.
Salah-ud-din had first threatened panchs of dire consequence- amounting to physical elimination- and then asked them to boycott the MLC election.
To build pressure on the members of the Panchayati Raj Institution, terrorists have in October this year killed two panchs and sarpanchs in Baramulla.
The HM had publicly claimed this claim and latter it was found that some surrendered terrorists, but still continuing to own allegiance to the outfits, executed the plan of killing them.
Salah-ud-din had said India is showcasing these elections as claim of its democracy and normalization of the things in the J&K.
Panchs and Sarpanchs by whole heartedly participating had once again shown that they feel secure in the democratic set up of the India and also do constitutionally swear by their allegiance to the country.
The fact that even in remote corners of the Kashmir, where terrorists do continue to have field, large scale participation was reported, shows that writ of Salah-ud-din has waned away his intimidating tactics do no longer work out.
These elections have proved one important factor that Salah-ud-din and separatists are not more than just paper tigers and shouldn't be weighed much.
It's also a indication for the policy makers to write off these lunatic elements from the scheme of things and don't put so much premium on their so called leadership.
The massive participation of the panchs and sarpanchs have also scuttled the move of vested interests who were wary of the political emancipation of the panchs.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had said that separatists are also not interested in the elections and they are also against the powers to panchs and sarpanchs. He had also some vested interests in the bureaucracy who are also not interested to give more powers to Panchayati Raj Institutions.
The elections have also exposed the hallow slogans and claims of some self-claimed leaders of panchs and sarpanchs who first threatened to boycott polls on the issue of security and latter on 73rd Amendments.
The process has not only moved further on fully functioning of Panchayati Raj system but has also given electoral face to the upper House, as four members would come by contesting the elections and not by quota system, where political patronage is counted more than political standing.
