early times report JAMMU, Dec 3: Beating host and two-time champion, University of Jammu by six wickets in the final, Kashmir University today retained the All India Vice Chancellor's Twenty20 Cricket Tournament amidst jubilations from the supporting crowd on the JU ground, here this afternoon. The winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes were given away by the Chief Minister and Pro-Chancellor of the two universities, Omar Abdullah. Earlier, JU won the toss and decided to bat first. However, JU batsmen could not do well after they were restricted to a small total of 118 runs for seven by the opponent bowlers. To the surprise of big crowd, turned up in support of JU, the visiting KU side overhauled the total making 119 runs in 18.3 overs with six wickets in hand. Raj Kumar remained top scorer from JU with 27-ball 32 runs including two sixes and equal number of boundaries. Amit Targotra and Vishal Sudan contributed 18 and 17 runs respectively while Rajesh added 14 runs. From KU, Parvez Parrey and Parvez took two wickets each. Later, KU attained the goal in 18.3 overs for the loss of four wickets. Shahnawaz remained top scorer with 38 runs while Parvez Parrey contributed 20-ball 20 runs. Altaf Ahmed and Suhail added 20 and 14 runs respectively. From JU, Raj Kumar took two wickets while Rajesh and Daud Ibqal Baba shared apiece each. For his all-round performance, Parvez Parrey was adjudged man of the match while man of the series trophy went to Samiullah. Pawan Singh of JU was declared best bowler while best batsman trophy was bagged by KU skipper, Sohail. Earlier, Vice-Chancellor of University of Jammu, Prof MPS Ishar welcomed the Chief Minister and other distinguished gathering. He termed it an honour for JU to host the mega event wherein 20 universities of the country took part. Vote of thanks was presented by organizing secretary of the tournament, Director Sports and Physical Education, JU, Prof Dhain Singh Bhau. The proceedings of the event were conducted by Dr Yash Pal Sharma. Among the distinguished gathering were Principal, District and Session Judge, Jang Bahadur Singh, ADGP Armed, Law and Order, K Rajendra, IGP Jammu, Dilbagh Singh, DIG, JP Singh, Prof Rekha Chaudhary, Prof Neelam Saraf, president KUMSA, Jeelani Wani and president JUNTEU, Sunil Sahi.
