Jammu, Dec 5: Senior BJP leader Bansi Lal Bharti on Wednesday said the Election Commission, Chief Electoral Officer and officials deputed as observers for smooth conduct of election to four seats of MLCs in J&K owe an explanation as to why the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) reached at Polytechnic Institute, Jammu, at midnight of December 4 from Kishtwar and Kathua. Bharti, who was also election agent of BJP candidate said that he was in Polytechnic Institute Jammu to monitor the arrival of EVMs from different parts of the province. "The EVMs from Kathua and Kishtwar, which should have reached Jammu in day time, were handed over to concerned staff late at night. It hardly takes two hours from Kathua and five hours from Kishtwar to reach Jammu. The EVMs despatched in the morning of December 4, took 12-15 hours, which raises doubts. It seems that the delay in depositing the EVMs to Jammu was made under a conspiracy and there is possibility that some foul might have played with the EVMs en-route Jammu, which needs to be looked into," he demanded. Bharti asked the Election Commission, Chief Electoral Officer and Election Observers to take note of this serious matter and order an inquiry as to why the EVMs reached Jammu so late. He also asked them to fix the responsibility and recommend action if any official is found guilty for the same. |
