| Over 12 traders booked for profiteering | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 12: Acting on the complaint of consumers for less weighing of vegetables and charging exorbitant rates, Director CAPD, Parvez Malik constituted a team of officers of Legal Metrology deptt and CAPD under the supervision of Deputy Controller LM, Enf. The team with the assistance of police conducted extensive checking of more than 50 vendors dealing with sale of vegetables and fruits at Sabji Mandi, Prade ground, here today. The team checked the weighing instruments and weights of all the traders and found nine traders in possession of defective instruments which were not stamped and verified from the department. All such instruments were seized and the owners were booked under the provisions of Weights & Measures Law by Inspector LM Pooja Kumari. The team also found that some traders had not displayed the rate lists at the selling premises and accordingly three traders were booked by AD CAPD department for non display of rates. The team also found that on some items traders were charging more profit which was against the directive of the government who has fixed maximum of 35% profit on the perishable vegetables. The team ensured the display of reasonable price on the spot on all the trading premises in presence of the office bearers of association of Sabji mandi and warned the traders not to fleece the gullible and hapless consumers. |
