| Discourteous City Police confiscates handicapped pillion rider's bike | | | ET Report Jammu, Dec 12: In what could be described as dictatorial attitude of men in Khaakhi, City North police on late yesterday afternoon forced a two wheeler rider and his handicapped brother to leave his motorbike on the road and return home walking. Shockingly, there was no fault of duo as they claimed that the rider was wearing headgear besides all documents of the two-wheeler including Insurance and Registration Certificate was up to date. Instead, police seized the vehicle showing that the rider failed to present the documents of the vehicle, on the spot. Furthermore, the police officer did not mention the number of the vehicle on the challan. Meanwhile, Additional Mobile Magistrate, Jammu, Madan Lal today directed the police officer concerned "to appear before the Court and explain why he has not written the number of the vehicle on the Challan." The sordid incident occurred in the old city area falling under the jurisdiction of Police Post Panjtirthi under Police Station Pacca Danga. "At about 4 pm yesterday, I came to city along with my physically challenged brother Sanjay Kumar for medical check up," informed Tarsem Lal further claiming, "I was asked to stop on a Police Naka in Panjtirthi where Cops on duty demanded documents of my motorbike bearing registration number JK02-AQ 5094." "When I presented them Registration Certificate, Insurance cover as well as Driving License, the Police officer claimed that the documents are not original. When I pleaded before him that these were the original documents and he had to visit a doctor for the medical check up of my brother, the officer on duty did not bother and directed me to leave. My vehicle was seized," claimed Tarsem Lal further adding that, "I had to lift my handicapped brother on my back till I got a transportation to reach back to home." "Will anyone from the senior hierarchy of police will intervene and at least inquire why and how all such incidents are occurring? Why such officers are not being reprimanded for such acts? I think I am not the only sufferer, there are all possible chances that such incidents are occurring almost every day," lamented Sanjay Kumar. All repeated attempts to contact senior police officers concerned for comment proved futile. |
