| Omar using carrot, stick to woo Cong | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 12: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is using carrot and stick policy on Congress in desperate attempt to stitch pre-poll alliance before Assembly elections. Omar is now trying to project himself as the next Sheikh Abdullah, who was given the post on platter before being send to jail. Addressing rallies in Rajouri and Akhnoor , he said history of Abdullah-Gandhi family relation goes back to the time of Sheikh Abdullah and Pandit Nehru, which got further cemented with the passage of the time. He even went to the extent of saying that Pandit Nehru even didn't want the State unit of the Congress. Omar had deliberately tried to take out the historical perspective from this statement. Sheikh was supported by both the Nehru and Mahatama Gandhi because he was opposing the two-nation theory. It was because of this reason that Jinnah had hostile welcome in Srinagar. In this backdrop, Sheikh was supported as he emerged as strong credible Kashmiri leader in the Muslim majority of J&K State. It was because of this reason, their Cong, which had its presence in the State before independence with stalwarts like Trilochan Dutt and GL Dogra, decided not to form its unit. However, things changed after Sheikh Abdullah started showing his real anti-Indian face. It was because of this reason he was got arrested on the orders of Pandit Nehru. Later, though he was given chair on his release, on the platter by the Cong, he was again confronted by the Indira Gandhi, who made him to give up his stake on Autonomy. The Cong didn't have love-all relation with the NC especially Abdullah family. It was given support when it acted in politically correct manner but its ears were pulled when it went astrayed. Cong realised its folly of entering into agreement with Dr Farooq Abdullah in 1987 which changed the political landscape of the State with separatism getting leverage and loss of thousands of lives with the emergence of terrorism. However, some political observers believe that Omar is trying to give an impression that he is desperate to go to any extent to stitch and alliance with Cong to stay in power even if it means renouncing Autonomy and other political grand standing of the Sheikh Abdullah. |
