| Mera Mandrian Bridge a typical example of 'cantilever construction' | | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 12: Chief Minister today inaugurated 187 Mtr. Span Bridge over River Chenab at Mera Mandrian in Akhnoor Tehsil constructed by JKPCC at an estimated cost of Rs 2425.00 Lakh is unique example of 'cantilever construction.' Cantilevers are widely found in construction sector and are notably in cantilever bridges and balconies. When contacted Managing Director (MD) JKPCC informed on telephone that the bridge at Mera Mandrian is a cantilever construction and has unique features i.e. for being second longest central span in this type of construction in J&K. "A central hinge has been provided at the meeting point of cantilever arms to absorb shock in order to give a better riding quality. The innovative mechanism of counter balance of the cantilever portion have been provided in the bridge by anchoring the end spans by pre-stressing cables to the bottom of the Abutments thus using its dead weight for balancing the cantilever span, he added. MD JKPCC also informed that 4th Tawi Bridge across River Tawi is in final stage of construction and soon will be dedicated to the public. Chief Minster besides inaugurating Bridge over River Chenab at Mera Mandrian in Akhnoor Tehsil also dedicated 313Mtr. Span Bridge at Hanjana in Nowshera constructed by JKPCC at an estimated cost of Rs. 1413.00 Lakh.
