| Not correct to portray India as highly corrupt: Farooq | | | AGENCIES
HYDERABAD, Dec 12 : In the backdrop of allegations of corruption and irregularities against the UPA Government, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah today said it is not correct to portray the country as being highly corrupt.
"Today, we are projected as the most corrupt country in the world. It is not true. You have to wipe out all these misgivings. I believe we can do it," he said, addressing the valedictory session of the 'Entrepreneurship Week' of the Icfai Business School (IBS) on the outskirts of the city. Hailing the students as the future of the country, he exhorted them to work hard to excel in their professional life and also bring laurels for the country. Talking about the solar mission of the Union Government, he said its objective is to establish India as a global leader in solar energy, by creating the policy conditions for its diffusion across the country as quickly as possible.
The Mission will adopt a 3-phase approach, spanning up to 2012-13 as Phase 1, the remaining 4 years of the 12th Plan (2013-17) as Phase 2 and the 13th Plan (2017-22) as Phase 3. Its target is to create an enabling policy framework for the deployment of 20,000 MW of solar power by 2022.
It also aims to ramp up capacity of grid-connected solar power generation to 1,000 MW within three years - by 2013; an additional 3,000 MW by 2017 through the mandatory use of the renewable purchase obligation by utilities, backed with a preferential tariff.
The government is also making efforts to put in place transmission lines for effective power evacuation, Abdullah said. Noting that heating water and cooling rooms cost heavily, he said efforts were on to put in place solar systems for cooling of the rooms.
Highlighting the dangers posed by global warming like melting of glaciers among others, he said efforts should be made to reverse the trend in the interest of future generations.
Abdullah also advised the students not to run after money though it is important and called upon them to develop a sound value system to become successful in their profession and be noble citizens. |
