Conference a venture to promote secessionist agenda, says PK
CDR's Conspiracy In Jammu
12/23/2012 12:08:45 AM
Rustam
JAMMU, Dec 22: The essentially pro-separatist and pro-Pakistan Delhi-based Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation (CDR) organized the so-called Cross LoC Civil Society Dialogue on Jammu and Kashmir in Jammu on December 14, 15 and 16. In this three-day-long "dialogue" nearly four dozen carefully selected persons, mostly from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Jammu and Kashmir and the Kashmir valley, took part. About a dozen persons from Jammu province were also part of the "dialogue", but they were there, it is now more than clear, only to give legitimacy to the anti-India agenda the CDR had carefully prepared for the Jammu meet. The CDR, which is obviously funded by those whose single-point agenda is to promote separatism and communalism in the State and help the Pakistani cause in this part of Jammu and Kashmir, as was expected, adopted a number of break-India resolutions. One of the resolutions declared the aggressor Pakistan a "stakeholder" in Jammu and Kashmir - a stand which even the known pro-Pakistan fanatic Syed Ali Shah Geelani never took, though he is a staunch votary of the State's merger with Pakistan on the ground that it is a Muslim-majority State.
That the CDR and the gathering of secessionists and their supporters would hatch a conspiracy against India in Jammu was a foregone conclusion. But what shocked the nationalist constituency in the State was the indifferent attitude of the so-called pro-India parties like the BJP and the JKNPP. Neither the BJP nor the JKNPP uttered a word against the CDR during the three-day event. Nor did they react to the resolution the CDR adopted, which was published prominently in a number of local dailies. The fact is that they allowed the organizers of the anti-India event in Jammu to go scot-free. It was the Panun Kashmir (PK), a premier organization of displaced Kashmiri Hindus, which realized the gravity of the situation and on Thursday gave its concrete reaction to what it called an anti-India event.
Describing the CDR conference as a "venture to promote the separatist and secessionist agenda in India rather than an exercise for peace", the PK leader Ajay Chrungoo, along with other leaders, lambasted the organizers of the event asserting that "dialogue…accepted the main contention of Pakistan and the radical Islamic establishment in the State" that the issue of Jammu and Kashmir is yet to be resolved. "Pakistan, Jamaat-e-Islami and other Salafi-Wahabi groups, along with other separatist formations, have been resolutely demanding a tripartite solution to the problems in Jammu and Kashmir involving Pakistan and the separatists as the main stakeholders. The outcome of the conference must have been music to their ears. The CDR has played a role of promoting Pakistan as a stakeholder in Jammu and Kashmir at a time when the world at large recognizes it as a mere aggressor not only for its actions since independence of India but also for its pivotal contribution in promoting International Jihad," the PK leader said while addressing a press conference in Jammu.
"The Panun Kashmir cannot see the activities of the CDR divorced from the major interventions of Pakistan and the separatist establishment in the State in the recent times. The visit of the Kashmiri separatist group to Pakistan and their expressions; the way the Pakistani Minister Rehman Malik conducted himself in India; the aggressive postures adopted by Pakistan at the ground level as well as at the highest level vis-a-vis J&K and India and the conclusion of the CDR conference in Jammu seem to be more than complimentary to each other," the concerned PK leadership also said.
The PK leadership not only questioned the very credentials of the CDR as well as the timing of the event it organized in Jammu, but also tore into the CDR saying it "resolutely overlooked the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus and trivialized it". "It (CDR) has abjectly ignored the role of militant regimes operating in the State and the international forces promoting them; it has closed its eyes to the intense Islamic radicalization taking place in the social milieu in the Valley and parts of Jammu and their increasing stranglehold of the organs of the society and the administration; and it has promoted a debate and perspective which can only be termed as an over ground support activity for the militarized Islamist and secessionist cause," it, in fact, said to make the point.
The PK leadership also reflected on the composition and complexion of the conference and said that the "weeding out of all inconvenient opinions from its platform has been the only mantra pursued by the CDR to promote its brand of dialogue", that the "CDR brand of dialogue is dialogue by killing the scope of dialogue", and that the "CDR brand of reconciliation is legitimizing hegemonic and exclusive views", and added that the "PK is baffled how the activities of the CDR are different than the activities pursued by Kashmiri American Council led by Dr Fai in the recent past".
The upshot of the whole argument advanced by the PK leadership against the CDR and those who participated in the conference was that "Jammu and Kashmir was never a part of the partition plan" and that being "part of indivisible Union of India, there are no stakeholders in the State other than the nation of India". In fact, the PK asserted, and very rightly, that "Jammu and Kashmir has been under assault from a regressive militarized movement which has destroyed the freedom of people and unleashed genocides in the State" and suggested that "defeat of terrorism and its ideology is paramount".
All well-wishers and right-thinking persons would endorse what the PK leadership said to put things in perspective and educate the public opinion about the dangerous ramifications of the activities the CDR has been indulging in for years now. It is time for the parties like the BJP and the JKNPP to rise from their deep slumber and tread the path the PK leadership charted.
