| Sacked ENT head, continues as Principal GMC | | Deceased baby's family suspect miscarriage of justice | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 22: After removing Dr. Aniece Chowdhary from the post of head of ENT department, he doesn't have moral ground to continue as Principal Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, as he can influence the inquiry into death of one and half year old child who was under his treatment. Dr Chowdhary was removed from the post of head of ENT department of GMC Jammu when media launched a campaign seeking his removal. However, in his capacity as Principal of the college he did not own responsibility of death of child who was undergoing treatment in his department. Rather he himself started inquiry to probe his own role which added insult to injury of the aggrieved family. Sources in the Medical Education Department said that Dr. Chowdhary enjoys support of the Government is not in favour of removing Chowdhary from the post of GMC Principal. "GMC principal can influence the witnesses in the case and may conceal material facts from the enquiry. The aggrieved family and all concerned have termed the enquiry as a mere eye wash. The concerned Minister has out rightly rejected direct involvement of Dr Chowdhary in the case and has said that he will not be punished till the report indicts him. "The case is different from other cases pertaining to Medical or Health departments. Chowdhary is not directly responsible and can't be removed from the post of GMC Principal but if found guilty action will be taken," the Minister had told a national English daily few days back. This clearly means that Government will not take action against Dr. Chowdhary despite the fact that it was due to his negligence that child died few days back which led to the protest demonstrations in the hospital. Sources in GMC told Early Times that under Dr. Chowdhary the health care in SMGS has gone from bad to worse and no measures are being taken to address the issues. Not only this, infant mortality rate in SMGS is also high as compare to other Government hospitals but the principal is not spending money to improve the health care. "Doctors are feeling helpless. They want to work but doesn't have enough support from administration and Government to improve the condition in SMGS,' sources added. Even few doctors in GMC believe that if Chowdhary continues to hold the top position, the institution will lose its credibility and health care will be badly affected. |
