Early Times Report

Srinagar, Dec 22: What could have turned out to be a major platform for rural women to explore their skills and earn their own livelihood, conflict among Sarpanch and Panchs of the area locked the recently established Krishi vigyaan Kendra (KVK) in Balapora shopian.
According to the concerned project coordinator Dr Inayat Ahmad, rivalry among Sarpnach and Panchs of the area left no option for us to lock the said centre. "We have informed the concerned Director to intervene in to the matter and solve the dispute as soon as possible", he said.
The dispute broke out after a local female Ulfat Nazir was selected as an instructor in the KVK center to train the newly registered girls.
According to the Sarpanch Abdul Majeed Rather, employees of the said centre and some high profile people of the village illegally appointed their own relatives and sidelined the deserving ones of the area while as his deputy Sarpanch Mohd Rafiq Bhat accused the sarpanch for using his political powers to lock the centre because of his personal family rivalry with the female instructor Ulfat Nazir.
Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir said that the matter will be thoroughly read and the action will be taken against the people involved in this matter.
Locals of the area showed their serious concern to re-open the KVK centre in the village so that women of the said village can develop their skills and earn their own livelihood. However, woman of the area accused the Sarpanch and panchs of closing down the recently established KVK centre in the village. They said that it was a golden chance for us to develop our skills in the centre and an opportunity to become independents in future.
The KVK centre was started in a rented building last week and some 20 girls of the same village were registered in the first phase to learn cutting and tailoring in the centre free of cost.
