early times report Jammu, Dec 22: State Secretary National Panthers Students Union (NPSU) Mohammad Shakeel Saturday said that the recent hike transport fares will prove a burden on students and poor people. Addressing a press conference here, he strongly criticized the transporters, whom he said, forced government to increase the passenger fare. He described transporters move as pressure tactic "as whenever the fuel prices are reduced, transporters never roll back fare hike." "Moreover, the fare hike ordered last time was not in proportion to the increase in prices of fuel. The already existing fare was enough to accommodate the fresh increase in fuel prices," he said. Shakeel said that the hike in transport fare was a burden on the student community and particularly on the students who belong to poor families. "Common man is already crushing under the wheels of inflation and unbearable prices of essential commodities. It is difficult for them to meet both ends. Fares of the buses, matadors, and auto rickshaws are already so high that regular commuters are facing a lot of problem and not in a position to spend huge amount from their salaries or work," he added. Others present in the press conference were Rohit Verma, Mukesh Sharma, Block President NPSU Purmandal and Sunny Sheikh.
