| Injured soldier succumbs in Rajouri | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Dec 26: The army soldier who was injured on Tuesday when a bullet from across the border hit him in the abdominal succumbs to injury in the wee hours in army hospital at Rajouri today. The soldier has been identified as Rakesh Kumar resident of Cirdhana of Bilaspur district in Himachal Pardesh. Sources in defence said that Rakesh Kumar of 37 Rashtriya Rifle was on duty at Neelam post in Balnoi sector in Mendhar sector. At about 5.30 pm a single bullet fired from across the border hit him in the abdominal. Reliable sources said that some militants who were trying to sneak into this side of border at fired on the soldier. He was immediately rescued to the nearby army medical centre and later shifted to Army hospital at Rajouri where he breathed his last at about 3 am today. Rakesh had 11 years service in the army and presently attached with 37 RR which is looking after the Line of Control along with Maraths in Balnoi sector. After June, 2012 when constable PK Mishra of BSF and sepoy Harvinder Singh were killed in cross border firing in Krishna Ghati sector Rakesh is third soldier who had sacrificed his life on the Line of Control in Poonch district. |
