Udhampur, Dec 26: State Congress President and former Union minister Prof Saifuddin Soz Wednesday said that issues of public concern were in the knowledge of the party and receiving due attention. He said that Panchayat Raj System (PRS) would be further strengthened so that it becomes an effective instrument of service to the people at the grass root level. Addressing a function in connection with first death anniversary of Yash Paul Khajuria, former minister and senior Congress leader here, Prof Soz said that PRS would be further strengthened so that they can play the desired role as expected from the basic institution of democracy. He said that collation Coordination Committee would shortly discuss the suggestions of the Congress party for empowerment of Panchayats by incorporating necessary provisions of 73rd Amendment and the document regarding this has been finalized. "After this exercise is over, the election to the Block Development Councils would also be held," he announced. Soz assured the panchs and sarpanchs that besides other things to make these institutions effective, they would be provided honorarium and insurance cover and all other things necessary for making these institutions effective to deliver to the expectation of people. However, he asked the Panchayat representatives to be on the forefront to fight against corruption and to ensure that various central and state sponsored schemes for the welfare of people are implemented properly at the grass roots level. Reiterating commitment of his party for equitable development of all three regions of the state, the Congress President asked party men to unitedly fight against communal and divisive forces. Recalling the service of Khajuria, who was a dedicated leader, Soz asked the party workers to work for party with same dedication and devotion. He also announced that a community hall in memory of Khajuira would be constructed in Udhampur for which he announced Rs 10 lac out of his MPLAD fund and said that other legislators would contribute from their CDS for the purpose also. On the occasion Sorav Khajuria son of late Khajuria also addressed the gathering and he was inducted into the NSUI as State Secretary. |
