| WD arriving, rain or snow from today evening in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Dec 26 : A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is touching the region which could result in rain or snowfall from tomorrow evening in the Jammu and Kashmir. The border town of Kargil on Srinagar-Leh national highway, recorded coldest night of the season so far after the minimum dipped to minus 15.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum also dropped in Kashmir valley, where summer capital Srinagar recorded temperature of minus 3 degrees, one degree below normal. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that light rain or snow could occur at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. He said rain or snow will occur at many places over the state from tomorrow evening for subsequent two days. Kargil in Ladakh region which remained cut off from the rest of the country following closure of the national highway for winter months, recorded minus 15.4 degrees, coldest of the season so far. Nearby Drass, also a border town, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, recorded minus 21 degrees, an improvement of few degrees against yesterday. The coldest so far at Drass was minus 26 degrees, recorded early this week. After four degree above normal maximum temperature yesterday, people in Srinagar witnessed yet another cold night after the minimum dropped to minus 3 degrees, one degree below normal. The Met spokesman said the sky would remain generally cloudy with haze tomorrow. Elsewhere in the valley, the minimum remained below normal. |
