| Road safety week begins in Kathua | | | Early Times report
Kathua, Jan 3: Together with the celebrations of Road Safety Week an eye camp was also organized in the front of RTO office here today. The camp was attended by more than 100 people to get their eye check up by the eye specialist in order to check any odd in case of driving. The camp would be held for four more days but the eye checking is the main activity of the camp in order make the Driving license holder perfect and effective and the other activities. RTO Ajay Sharma said that the main motive of the programme is to create awareness among the people about the traffic rules. He said the people should avoid drinking, use of mobile and rashness while they are driving their vehicles. He said only in district K athua data of the accidents and deaths is disturbing. In 2009 there were total 388 accidents out which 106 lost their life, in 2010 there were 417 accidents out of which 82 lost life, in 2011 there 483 accidents out of which 88 lost their life and in 2012 there were 362 accidents out of which 74 lost their life. RTO said all Matadors/407 Drivers and conductors should be cleanly dressed in Navy Blue Shirt and Trousers to look distinguishable from the passengers. He said this is directed by the Transport Commissioner and Chairman State Transport Authority J&K. |
