early times report JAMMU, Jan 3: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand has stressed upon officers of Housing & Urban Development Department to gear up for ensuring timely completion of prestigious urban development projects launched for all round urban infrastructure development of the state. He said ambitious initiatives have been taken in the field and need is to prioritize the works for their completion. Mr. Tara Chand chaired a high level meeting of officers to review the progress of different works and timely completion of various projects. Minister of State for Housing &Urban Development, PHE and Tourism Nasir Aslam Wani was also present in the meeting. The meeting held discussions with regard to the implementation of various Housing and Urban Development works, besides sanitation and other civic amenities being provided to the people. He took up a detailed review of all performance and achievements of H&UD Department under different central and state funded schemes and projects. While reviewing progress on Rehabilitation of Dal Dwellers, the Deputy Chief Minister said that 356 crore have been approved by the Government of India for the upgradation of Dal Lake. He exhorted upon the officers for early rehabilitation of Dal Dwellers so that the upgradation and beautification work of Dal Lake would be completed in a time bound manner. He also reviewed progress on proposal of multi tier parking at Bus Stand. Other parking slots to be made at Panjtirthi, Sawaz Mandi, Parade and various other locations were also discussed in the meeting. Tara Chand said maximum benefit can be only be reaped when undertaken works are completed within the stipulated time frame and calendar for the works is strictly adhered too. He cautioned the officers that no laxity would be tolerated. The Deputy Chief Minister took a detailed review of the ongoing drainage projects by NBCC, ERA, UEED and other agencies and exhorted the need to gear up the men and machinery for timely completion of these works. Tara Chand said that action plans should be chalked out in advance and shared with the line departments for carrying out works as per timeline. The Deputy Chief Minister directed the executing agencies to speed up pace of different works so that benefits percolate to the poorest of the poor. Wani stressed on adherence to all the technical norms and quality parameters by the executing agencies. He suggested constant supervision by the line departments during execution of the projects to avoid their faulty implementation. The meeting was attended by Commissioner/Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UDD) Jeet Lal Gupta, Vice-Chairman, JDA Sarita Chouhan, Vice-Chairman, LAWDA Irfan Yasin, Commissioner JMC , K.L. Khajuria, Commissioner, SMC Dr. G.N. Qasba, Director, ULB, Jammu F.C Bhagat, Director, ULB, Kashmir, Shamim Ahmad Laherwal, Managing Director, J&K Housing Board Kiran Wattal, and other senior officers of concerned departments.
