| Bandobasti of 'land record' underway in Panchayat Halqa Jandrah | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 7 : Bandobasti (Settlement of Revenue village records) is underway in revenue village Jandrah under the Panchayat Halqa Jandrah. Giving details about the Bandobasti of Land records, Anil Sharma the Sarpanch of the Panchayat Jandrah informed that the settlement of records of revenue village is being done in his Panchayat Halqa after a gap of 90 years. "This Bandobasti is being done under the direction of Settlement officer, Jammu under the supervision of Tehsildaar Jammu and Naib Tehsildaar Jandrah along with coordination of the Panches and Sarpanch, he said. He said that the bandobasti would be helpful for the villagers of Block Dansal to trace out their land records which are otherwise completely destroyed or being attached in huge files (Massavi and Lathas) which is not easy for a revenue officer to carry with him in case if it is required to be produced before Panchayat or in an legal matter. The first regular settlement was conducted in J&K, in between 1887 to 1905 AD, during the reign of Maharaja Pratap Singh. Recalling from past he added this regular settlement called "Bandobast Qanooni" was held under the superintendence of one Mr Vingate, a Britisher in 1887 in Kashmir valley who completed two paraganas out of the 28 namely "Paragana Lal & Phak". Mr. Vingate was replaced by one Mr.Walter R. Lawrence in 1889. It was due to his strenuous efforts, that by 1893, 10,709 village cadastral maps were prepared. |
