| SFC employees union to approach SC against violation of court order | | 'Forest officials responsible for mess in Corporation' | | Asif Iqbal Naik Kishtwar, Jan 7 : State Forest Corporation (SFC) union leadership has decided to approach the Supreme Court to file contempt petition against government and Forest department for violating the court directions in terms of extraction of timber from forests in Jammu and Kashmir. The decision in this regard has been taken by the union during its meeting held by State Forest Corporation Employees Union Chenab Valley held under its president Masood Ahmed Siddiqui at Kishtwar. The participants expressed their strong resentment over the callous attitude of the authorities towards the long pending demands of the employees. The speakers also apprehended that despite downsizing of the works in the Corporation, the Forest Department is itself carrying out the timber extraction operations throughout the state in sheer violation of the order passed by Supreme Court which leads the Corporation towards financial crunch. It is worth to mention here that the Supreme Court in its direction to the State Government stated that the extraction works shall be carried out by the State Forest Corporation in the State and in case of downsizing of the work, the pay and other emoluments of its employees shall not be affected. Mr. Siddiqui said that contrary to the directions of Supreme Court the employees of S.FC. are deprived of the basic components of their salary i.e. COLA & D.A. "It looks that the Govt. and the authorities concerned have slept over the matter thus adding to the miseries of poor employees," Siddiqui added. The participants during the meeting were critical of the Govt policy by virtue of which the Corporation is being pushed towards the state of bankruptcy. They said that the approximate cost of timber & fire wood supplied to Forest Department and other Govt agencies so far has risen to seven hundred crore rupees as outstanding and no payment has been made to the Corporation on this account. |
