| Traffic Signal Lights: Not for CM?? | | |

JAMMU, Jan 7: "The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's cavalcade stopping at a traffic signal" is not a practice in winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. It was only once on May 16 this year in summer capital Srinagar when his cavalcade stopped at traffic signal till it turned green.
But here in Jammu, when Omar's cavalcade move through roads all traffic signals are being put on red light and no traffic is allowed till CM's cavalcade moves. This is leading to the nightmare of traffic jam in old city area.
In Srinagar, when CM's cavalcade stopped at a red traffic signal it was played up and by saying that Omar has set an example for others. But after that things have changed and instead people stop for CM's cavalcade.
On Monday (today) afternoon, this thing was repeated in Jammu when the Chief Minister was heading towards his residence at Wazarat road from Gandhi Nagar, all traffic leading to that area was stopped by the Traffic Police officials and traffic signals were put off.
"Does CM have the right to break traffic rules and make people suffer? Can't his cavalcade respect traffic signals which his Government has installed for free and smooth flow of traffic," asked Sunil Sharma, a biker who was waiting for green signal at Green Belt Chowk to head towards his destination.
Not only the Chief Minister, his Ministers too don't follow traffic rules in Jammu and the Traffic authorities instead of doing their duty remain in waiting to help these Ministers to break the signal and flee from the spot without any stopping.
"I have seen many at times that even Minister don't wait for signals to go green and then move. Whenever any Minister's vehicle moves through the road, Traffic authorities swing into action and help them to break rules," alleged Anil Sharma, a university student.
"Why don't these Ministers and bureaucrats follow rules and regulations," asked Sharma and added that if higher class doesn't respect rules then why common people should respect.
However, the Traffic officials informed that the CM has Z-Plus security, so they have to put all the traffic signal lights green for him, but Omar while giving reply on the social networking site said that he wants the Traffic Department to too stop the traffic for his movement, but the department is still in a habit to stop everyone for CM's movement, just for the security reasons. |
