| Sultanpur without power for a week, courtesy laxity of Deptt | | | Bunty Sharma Jammu, Jan 7 : As the winter gets worse, so does the electricity woes, the locals are seen frequently taking to streets to seek repairs of the electric transformers in their areas. Under ongoing severe cold conditions there are villages who are under darkness for weeks together and Sultanpur in Teh & Distt Jammu is one such village which is under darkness for the last one week. "PDD has plunged our village into darkness. We are facing immense hardships due to erratic power supply," the residents of Sultanpur said. "We many times approached the concerned PDD authorities for restoration of power but they failed," they said. The unscheduled power cuts have made our lives miserable. If PDD does not restore round the clock power we will be forced to launch an agitation against the department," they said. They further alleged that they even approached to local MLA but to no use as they got only fake assurances. When contacted JE, Sanjeev Kumar he said that repairing process is time consuming but the department is trying to cope up with the crisis at its best. Meanwhile senior officials of the department maintain that overloading especially the illegal manner by consumers is the root cause of crashing of transformers in winters and summers. In their defence they added during peak hours, most households use electric heaters, boilers, blowers, geysers, besides other appliances including TVs which are generally not included in the agreements between the department and the consumers. |
