| Political activities in ruling NC stagnant at organisational level | | High command's 'dictatorial' attitude taking toll in both capitals | | ET Report JAMMU, Jan 7: The dictatorial attitude of National Conference High Command has started taking toll within the organization with no activity, nor even routine meetings taking place neither at Srinagar nor in the winter capital where Government is stationed at present. The party's activity and presence in the political spectrum of J&K has been reduced to occasional statements made either by Dr Mustafa Kamaal or Devinder Rana, that too as reactive response to statements of other parties. Sources said despite being in power, National Conference is actually suffering from crisis of remaining in a dysfunctional state as no activity nor any programme has been organized for long time in both the capitals . This dysfunctional state has started impacting the enthusiasm of cadres and workers who feel isolated with stagnated political atmosphere in the party headquarters. Sources said while the high command has since stopped taking interest in the activities of the party, the middle rung leaders as also the functionaries of the party too are not keenly involved in activity nor taking any initiative to organize any , whether in the office or out in the field in the form of any rally or public meeting. Sources said while the notion of party being in power and therefore needing no activity nor participation in such programmes is the mindset at high command level behind a standstill state of affairs, the second line leadership has also dissociated from such activities which keep the profile of parties alive politically. Senior leaders are attributing a valid cause for this stagnation within the party and with functionaries . "High Command continues to dominate every small big decision in the party…..the expressions like consensus or discussion on any crucial decision is a farce in NC…….there is no democracy as such and all decisions are taken at the top level…", said a senior most leader in the party while lamenting the state of affairs in the organization. While dictatorial attitude of High Command is not a new phenomenon , this feeling has got reinforced further following certain utterances by patron of the party Dr Farooq Abdullah in the Working Committee meeting that was held after declaration of results for LC polls. Sources said the utterances of Dr Abdullah in dictatorial tone and tenor have not only been taken in bad taste by those against whom these were meant but senior leaders who were present in the meeting have felt offended by his conduct. Though it was in context of Dr Mustafa Kamaal's utterances against Congress that his brother Farooq Abdullah made such remarks, these have not gone well with the hierarchy down the line, sources said. Dr Abdullah in his typical 'dogmatic' style while referring to Omar Abdullah's proposal to context 2014 polls in coalition with Congress and reservation to this from some quarters (particularly from Mustafa Kamaal) had made a 'sweeping' statement , though in anger that ''those who want to stay with the party can do so and those who are not comfortable can go.. '', sources said adding that it is this statement which is refraining most of senior leaders and even stalwarts from taking any active part in the party affairs. |
