EARLY TIMES REPORT
Rajouri, Jan 7 : Hundreds of villagers of border district Rajouri have been facing acute shortage of potable drinking water owing to defunct water schemes of the government.
The inhabitants of Nadia, Nagwal, Kluta, Naka, Budam, and Nadia Kotra of forward border area of Dharal about 20 kilometers away main Rajouri Town have been left in a hapless situation despite the implementation of water schemes which is lying defunct according to villagers. A scheme was developed to put an end to water shortage in these villages, but the gravity pumping scheme is out-of-order for the past few months, resulting in an acute water crisis, they alleged. Local villagers have today lodged massive protest against government including concerned Public Health Engineering department for poor supply of drinking water. A local villager said, though water pipelines have been laid in the villages but so far, the drinking water has not been supplied by concerned department. Mir a villager of Nadia said, "The demand and supply situation with regards to drinking water is getting critical by each passing year, but just as the resources are running out of discharge, the PHE department is running out of ideas too" "Children wasting their valuable times in procuring water by waiting hours in queue, as elder members are busy in earning bread and butter" Rakia Begum added. Knowing all the problems concerned authorities and local MLA, even Sarpanches have turned blind eye to the problem people facing in chilly weather conditions, they said. Despite several attempts to take the version of senior PHE official over problems facing by large number of villagers on phone, the authority concerned had not picked my phone.
