KATHUA, Jan 7: Semifinals position has been cleared with the entry of Shining Star Club Kathua in the last four stages of the ongoing 3rd Police Martyrs' Memorial North Zone Twenty20 Cricket Championship at Sports Stadium, here today. Now, in the first semifinal, scheduled for tomorrow, Shining Star shall take on District Cricket Association Ludhiana. In other semifinal, Sandhu Cricket Club Ludhiana shall lock horns against Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police (JKAP) XI on January nine at the same venue. Earlier, in the fourth quarterfinal of the day, Shining Star defeated BSNL XI by 34 runs. Batting first, after winning the toss, Shining Star set a target of 132 runs for the loss of seven wickets, which, in reply, BSNL could not chase and bowled out for 97 runs in 19.2 overs. Suraj Bhan played superb innings of 19-ball 35 runs while Chanderpal Saini contributed highest 36 runs to the total. From BSNL, Nitin Aggarwal was most successful bowler, who took four wickets for 10 runs in four overs while Negi, Sunil and Niranjan shared apiece each. Later, BSNL made a good start and lost their first wicket with score already touching the 50 runs mark. However, afterwards, to the surprise of the visiting side, wickets started falling on regular interval resulting into whole side bowled out for 97 runs in 19.2 overs. Negi remained top scorer with 27 (off 24 balls) runs while Vikas added 19 runs. Arun, Divesh and Rohit took two wickets each while Canderpal bagged one from Shining Star. For his all-round performance, Chanderpal Saini was declared man of the match. He was presented with the cash prize of Rs 1500 and trophy by former chairman of Municipal Council, Kathua, Naresh Sharma, who was special guest in the match. |
