| Pollution promoting 'pesticide industries' goes unabated: locals | | | Neeraj Badyal Samba, Jan 7 : Locals in Samba alleged that a dozen of pesticide industries and other chemical units including paint and pharmaceutical units violating the norms of pollution are functional without any check from the concerned authorities. Members of civil society namely Adv Subash Singh, Raj Kumar, Karan Singh, Joginder Singh and PYC president in Samba constituency Vinod Kumar, Sarpanch Shivram, Sarpanch Lucky Singh said that many states including New Delhi have shifted pesticide units from residential area as these units are promoting pollution. Local resenting the functioning of these units in close vicinity of residential areas warned that the government if these pesticide industries are not shifted from Samba they will be forced to come on road to lodge a protest. Pertinently around five years ago around 170 families lost their ancestral vegetable crop farming due to heavy pollution promoting by some 17 pesticide units which is situated in same cluster of 1 kilometer radius surrounding river Basanter. Few months back 7 buffalo's died after drinking this poisonous water of these units. They also termed the setting of an environment committee under the chairmanship of Mohd Yusuf Tarigami mere an eye wash to the people. |
