1/13/2013 9:55:39 PM
Early TImes report

DODA, Jan 13: Demanding deployment of more SRTC buses in the hilly district of Doda especially on routes of Gundoh to Akhyar Pur Jakyas, Doda to Akhyarpur Jakyas, Bhatyas Challar, Bunjwah, Saroori, Thakrie, Sarthal and other areas, the Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) activists today held a strong protest at Bhatyas Challar.
Led by PYC President of Inderwal Assembly constituency, Mohammad Latief Mughal hundreds of Youth Congress activists demanded strict checking of the vehicles plying on hilly areas besides imposing ban on use of mobile phones by the drivers.
While addressing the Youth Congress activist, Mughal said that Red Cross Committee Kishtwar had submitted its annual report to Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Saleem Mohammad Chowdhary for the year 2012. As per the report submitted by Red Cross to its District Chairman, 26 people lost their lives while 82 others got injured in as many as 3 accidents.
The report alleged that officials of District Hospital Kishtwar did not provide Ambulance.
Keeping in view of the lack of support from health department Kishtwar, Youth Congress unit demanded an immediate sanctioning of an ambulance to Red Cross Kishtwar so that the needy people and various accidental victims could get better medical attention on time in case of such eventuality.
Mughal regretted that from the last four years such accidents have become a routine affair but no concrete action has been taken so far by the government to save precious human lives.
He also demanded to take effective steps in checking frequent accidents adding that the government should direct Traffic Police to keep a strict check on overloading and plying of old model buses due to which road mishaps have become a routine affair.
He appealed Transport Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon and MLA Inderwal G M Saroori to intervene personally so that general public will not suffer in future.
