| Govt sits over roads, tunnels to connect Doda with Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 13: The Jammu and Kashmir government has failed to take up the issue of construction of roads and tunnels connecting Doda and Kisht-war districts with Kashmir valley despite getting all the information of estimation of funds to be utilized. Tunnels connecting Des-sa in Doda to Kapran in Anantnag districts and Singhpora in Kishtwar and Vialoo in Anantnag districts would provide alternate route to people of erstwhile district Doda to valley, but the government is not taking up this issue with central government for funds. This is the long pending demand of people of erstwhile district Doda, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar to give them an easy and short access to Kashmir valley so that they could have direct contact with people of valley and could take benefit of rich tourism potential which is still virgin. It is believed that many a times the elected representatives of erstwhile Doda district have taken the issue with state government and with state leaders having important position in the central government but they haven't got good response from either of them. Sources in the public works department told Early Times that the chief engineer Jammu office is ready with the report regarding all roads and tunnels connecting Doda and Kishtwar with valley but government hasn't yet taken the issue seriously. Few months back, one of the Congress MLAs from Doda said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has agreed to fund the projects but the assurance hasn't yet been materialized.
