| If honesty and integrity are yardsticks MLA Poonch could get Ministerial berth | | | Early TImes report
Jammu, Jan 13-Now that the State Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has finally decided to reshuffle his council of ministers it is reasonable to expect some new faces in the cabinet who have a proven record of honesty and integrity besides a reputation for addressing the problems of the common man. One example of honesty and integrity besides proven capability and a track record of hard work is MLA Poonch, Ajaz Jan. While allegations of nepotism and corruption have been leveled against some ministers and elected representatives during the last four years, Ajaz Jan stands out as somebody upon whom the electorate of Poonch has complete faith. During the last four years Jan has been in the forefront of all the developmental programmes in his constituency. He has been regularly seen in the power corridors not seeking favours for his relatives or friends, but accompanying the poor and the needy from the far flung Poonch constituency to have their problems redressed. One example of this tireless, honest MLA is the recent help he has been rendering to over 30,000 people belonging to Poonch, Rajouri and other districts of the state who are on the verge of losing their jobs as private security guards in Mumbai. After hearing about the plight of these 30,000 people who have been told by the Mumbai police that they cannot continue to discharge their duties because their weapons are not registered with the Mumbai police, Jan air-dashed to Mumbai and has since been camping their to meet senior police officers and the Maharashtra home minister to ensure that these private security guards are not thrown out of their jobs. 22 of these private guards who had been arrested by Mumbai police were also bailed out by MLA Poonch using his influence and personal efforts. Given the relentless hard work and honesty of MLA Poonch one can only hope the Chief Minister adheres to his commitment of encouraging honest partymen by giving Ajaz Jan a ministerial berth in his council of ministers.
