| Jammu's super specialty 'Maternity Hospital' dies a political death | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 13: The construction of 200 bed super specialty 'Maternity Hospital' at an estimated cost of Rs 55 crores at Gandhi Nagar has come under slew of controversies due to its location, which the experts say does not fulfill the standard guidelines necessary for such a mega and important project. "Not any Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared before the start of the construction, besides no administrative or technical approval was taken from planning department of the State" sources claimed. They further said that two maternity hospitals were sanctioned for the State, one each for Jammu and Srinagar. "At Srinagar, work on said hospital is going on, in 45 kanals of land while here in Jammu the construction of hospital is being executed at Gandhi Nagar Hospital with approximately 4 kanals of land which is ten times less than that of Srinagar, they added. It was earlier proposed to be constructed at Bhagwati Nagar on 54 kanals of land but using political influence at State and Central level, managed to shift it Gandhi Nagar violating the guide line. Despite knowing the fact that such a huge project cannot be executed on a small piece of land yet the government ignoring the norm due influence on the higher leadership managed to shift it to the premises of Gandhi Nagar Hospital. As per existing OPD, at Gandhi Nagar Hospital around 1100 to 1200 patients are visiting on daily basis, already facing extreme space problems with the opening of the OPD in the hospitals as thousands of patient's visits the hospital for treatment and consultation with the specialists which also create huge parking problems in the area. "The construction of the seven storey Maternity Hospital at Gandhi Nagar has been designed in such a way that there are two basements for parking at total area of about 16000 square feet while at Srinagar, for the same hospital the construction area has been taken up in 12 kanals of land" sources further claim. When contacted, Commissioner Secretary to Health and Medical Education, Manooj Dwivedi said that the work on project had finalized when he joined as Commissioner Secretary.
