| Kaith Welfare Society organizes programme 'Mulaqat' at Langotian | | | Early TImes report
JAMMU, Jan 13: The Jammu and Kashmir Kaith Welfare Society organised a function at Sankri Devasthan in Langotian here today which was attended by the members of the Kaith Biradari hailing from different parts of J&K as well as outside the state. The function was enthusiastically celebrated by performing puja, havan and singing hymns in praise of Sankri Devta. Elaborating the historical events, R.L. Kaith said that Sankri Dev was the king of Kainthgali (in Udhampur district) during the early fourteenth century. When his subject people were tired at the hands of cruel acts of atrocious Mughals, Sankri Dev fought against them valiantly for several days but ultimately attained martyrdom at Umran-Ali (now in Pakistan). Kaith further said that until 1421 A.D. 'Kaith Sect' had not come into existence but thereafter when a group of members separated from the 'Katoch Sect' of Kainthgali, they constituted 'Kaith Sect' and soon migrated to various other places across and outside the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Members of the Kaith Sect even after their separation, continued to worship their ancestral spirit: Sankri Devta who is believed to be protector of the Kaith Biradari. He is worshipped twice a year for fulfillment of one's wishes, Kaith added. On the occasion, the Kaith Welfare Society presented 'Medal of Honour' to renowned Boxer Havildar Master Ram Kaith. |
