Lahore, Jan 13: ICC Chief Executive David Richardson on today completed a two-day visit to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which included meetings with PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf and members of his board, a tour of the National Cricket Academy here and attending the inaugural PCB awards function.
"It has been an invaluable trip which offered a great opportunity to meet with PCB's chairman, Board members, past and present cricketers as well as cricket lovers in Pakistan. I heard of the PCB development strategy and also plans for the Pakistan Super League Twenty20 competition," Richardson said.
"Everywhere I went everyone wanted to know the answer to the same question when will international cricket return to Pakistan? I stressed that the issue of safety and security on bilateral tours remains the prerogative of the two Boards while ICC's duty of care stretched only to the match officials.
"While I was unable to make any promises about the future of international cricket in Pakistan, I was able to guarantee that ICC would continue working positively with the PCB."
Richardson said the PCB would "acknowledge" the support ICC has been providing them. "There have been well documented challenges for cricket in Pakistan in the last few years but I am sure that the PCB would acknowledge that, at all times, the ICC have been there to help them - whether through the Task Team or through visits such as this one we undertook this weekend. "It is vital that everyone knows how important Pakistan is to the world of cricket and that they have not been forgotten nor disregarded by the cricket community."
