JAMMU, Jan13: The first quarterfinal between Jammu and Kashmir Police and J&K Power Development Corporation (PDC) remained inconclusive in view of the poor visibility in the ongoing 7th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament, organised by Christian Welfare Association at Mini Stadium, Parade, here today. Tied at 2-2 in the stipulated time, the tie-breaker could not take place after both the sides expressed their inability to defend the goal-post, citing poor visibility as the reason. Admitting the plea of the two top teams, the organizing committee decided to hold tie-breaker tomorrow at 12 noon to decide the fate of the match. Earlier, in the stipulated time, PDC took the first lead by striking in the 30th minute through Amanjot Singh. However, the lead was equalized by J&K Police with Asif scoring the goal in 44th minute. Entering into the second half with score on board 1-1, PDC again went ahead when Amanjot scored his second goal in the 69th minute. But the lead could not survive long and in the 80th minute, PDC committed the blunder in the melee that resulted into award of penalty in favour of J&K Police by the centre referee, Rajiv Dev. The penalty was successfully converted into goal by Manmohan Singh, who helped the side level the score at 2-2. Meanwhile, in a pre-quarterfinal match of the day, Churchill Brothers registered a 3-1 win over Param Football Club to make it to the last eight stages of the competition. Scoring their first goal through Moon Stephen on getting a penalty kick in the 45th minute, Churchill Brothers added two more goals to take an invincible 3-0 lead. Karan scored both the goals in the 50th and 60th minute. From Param FC, Arun reduced the margin in the 61st minute. Today's matches were officiated by Rajiv Dev, Saudagar Mattoo, Harmanjit Singh, Ramesh Chander, Vivian, David Masih and Yusuf Don. FIXTURE: Quarterfinals: NGR shall meet Food and Supplies at 12 noon while Vijay Club shall face J&K Forest at 2 pm tomorrow. |
