| 'Cases under RAN not being taken seriously by J&K Health Department' | | | Early TImes Report
Jammu, Jan 31: Lambasting the Jammu and Kashmir Health Department, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad, Yogesh Sawhney today said cases under Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN) are not being taken seriously by the state government. "Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah must look into the matter seriously and fix responsibility of officials due to whose casual approach RAN cases were not processed and Central funds are also not used properly," Sawhney told reporters. He said since a couple of patients had died awaiting financial assistance, the matter must be treated as criminal negligence and reviewed accordingly. He said under RAN, illness cases below Rs one lakh were provided with financial assistance by the Post Graduate Institute (PGI), Chandigarh. "However, cases between Rs one lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh were to be provided with financial assistance by the state for which Jammu and Kashmir had also established a State Illness Assistance Fund (SIAF)," the OSD said adding that financial assistance between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh was to be provided to families living under Below Poverty Line slab under scheme RAN. Any amount exceeding this limit was to be borne by the Health Ministry, Government of India under RAN, Sawhney added. He said Azad in a review meeting decided that all the Central Government Hospitals and Institutions will now refer the cases to RAN headquarters, where the amount of financial treatment exceeds Rs one lakah instead of referring to SIAF. Sawhney said the people other than BPL, can also be benefitted under RAN while the Union Health Ministry has also planned to construct attendants 'sarai' (rest house) within the PGI, Chandigarh and the proposal is under consideration. |
