| Indecent language against women in Nago CD: Jammu non reactive-3 | | Women's organizations mute, SCW too in 'still' mode | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 31: Even as the response of the opposition political parties has been no different than those in ruling alliance in turning deaf ears and blind eye to conduct of Police towards women, the scene is even more disgusting and disappointing from the women's organizations and NGOs supposedly working for the cause of dignity , rights and respect of women in the State. Notwithstanding their active role in day to day functioning all spinning around women and their exploitation , misconduct at the hands of Police, these have turned mute and dumb despite it having come to light in the Nago CD that senior cops during the course of interrogation have used utterly vulgar remarks against women, which though were unsolicited and unwarranted while dealing with the criminal case.
There must be scores of so called renowned women's organizations well registered with the Government authorities in J&K State which take pride and have gained prominence by proclaiming themselves as ones working for cause of women in the State. However, these rarely come in the front role , not even when serious crimes happen against the women in the State and Jammu in particular. Scores of rapes happen every year, not to speak of inhuman acts of female foeticide which take place in every next medical clinic but these women organizations have rarely raised a loud and meaningful voice against such crimes. Women organizations surprisingly do not feel concerned when the acts and utterances like those by the cops in the particular CD break all ethics and smash morality to hilt by using filthy , abusive language against women folk under any circumstances which did not even warrant mention of the women in conversation.
These so called renowned women bodies therefore remain as epitomized symbols of women cause and their activities remain confined to issuance of occasional statements , that too on their decorative letter pads with names of functionaries most of whom happen to be from elitist section of society . Any genuine concern for dignity and respect of women in general is as such least expected from such organizations with such dignitaries on board. Why in fact blame these non Government organizations for lack of concern or mute role when they are expected to speak and speak harsh against Government, police, State's own Women Commission has failed to take cognizance of many such cases in which women's respect and honour has been obliterated by police .
The Commission ironically was functioning smoothly, if not so well while it remained headless , when there was no political leader at the helm , its functioning remained sluggish during the last over three years ever since its chairperson, that too from ruling NC took over. What good or substantial in terms of justice to women could have been achieved as a result in such cases with police as culprits, is quite a naive and silly question itself. But there must surely be one among scores of women organizations who can raise some meaningful voice and outcry in the matter. How soon or would they actually …is again to be seen. |
