DDC reviews devolution of powers to PRIs

UDHAMPUR, Feb 9 : To review the detail of functions devolved to Halqa Panchayats by all the 14 departments of the state, District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, P.K. Pole convened a joint meeting of District Heads of these departments, Sarpanches and Panches of Panchari and Ghordi blocks here on Saturday. SSP, Udhampur, Ashkoor Wani, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Surat Singh, other officers of line departments and sarpnches and panches were present in the meeting. During the meeting, specified functions devolved to Panchayats by all 14 departments were reviewed thread-barely. During the meeting functioning and schemes of all the department were discussed and feedback was taken from the panches and sarpanches.
Addressing the meeting, the DDC said that the objective of Public Service Guarantee Act was to address the growing need of the citizens for improving the public services by having a time frame for delivery of notified services. Informing that there was a provision for imposing penalties on the service providers for defaulting or for causing undue delay. The DDC further said that members of PRIs be involved to aware the people about the programmes and policies of the government for the development of rural areas.
SSP Udhampur exhorted upon the sarpanches and panches to exercise their powers as warranted under Public Services Guarantee Act.
On occasion, sarpanches and panches highlighted various demands of their respective panchayats. Giving a patient hearing to their grievances, the DDC issued on the spot instructions to the concerned officers for the redressal of their genuine demands.
