| Authorities throw norms to winds while granting permissions | | Mushrooming of private schools | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 9: The finger of suspicion is raised towards functioning of Education Department as the mushrooming of the private schools is rampant but the education standards remained to be in shambles as there is no one to hear to woes of the students and their parents. And the recent Delhi Public School episode which is not an isolated case which reminds the Nelson's eye approach by the concerned department towards its duties to monitor the things on ground. Pertinently last year a 10th class student of SOS Herman School Gole Gujral too had a narrow escape but had to amputate one of his legs after he was also hit by a truck outside the gate of his school. As per sources the negligent death of a 13 year old student while boarding a school bus inside the premises of Delhi Public School (DPS) is an indication in this regard. The School ground resembles a bus stand where large number of buses are parked for ferrying the students from their home to school and back and under these circumstances a mishap can be expected at any time. Not only this but huge traffic jam is witnessed after school break from Residency Road to DPS during the school timing and break. Despite the fact that VIPs are putting up at Residency road the authorities never bothered to look into the problem and find an alternative to traffic jam on this busy road. The similar problem is also witnessed outside the schools which exist on busy roads in the city and its outskirts and often traffic jams are witnessed on these roads creating a public nuisance. But those at the helm of affairs are looking as mute spectators. According to sources the School Education Department continues to be in shambles in the state till State Government has a will power to put it back on tracks. The commercialization of education with mushrooming of private schools has added to the problem worst sources added. Sources said that a large number of private education institutions have come up in the state and their alarming number is in cities and big towns and further alleged they the administration neither care for the rules and regulations nor the set procedures. "They charge the exorbitant fee from students on the name of quality education, they alleged. Sources said that those at the helm of affairs while making a disservice to set procedures for maintaining the criteria for opening of private education institutions grant permissions to private parties for opening of commercial education institutions without ascertaining whether they are eligible for opening of the same as per the criteria fixed by the Government or not. Sources said that the Government has set norms for opening of new private education institutions but while granting the permission these norms are thrown to winds by the authorities which has resulted into the present sad state of affairs so for as private education institutions are concerned. Sources said the condition in Government schools is also worst as maximum schools lack teaching staff and thus people prefer to send their children to private education institutions where the rush is day by day increasing. Sources said there is a nexus on the part of department and management of private schools in this regard and deliberately no attention is paid to better the condition of private schools for quality education.
