AKHNOOR, Feb 9: Asserting that present regime has failed to make institutional arrangement functional to curb the menace of corruption in the government and administration, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Ved Mahajan criticized NC led coalition has failed to bringing transparency and accountability in the governance and has legitimized the corruption in various spheres. Addressing a public meeting at Akhnoor, Mahajan said that there was rampant corruption in the State and names of some higher ups in the government have been figured in a number of corruption cases. "Although the corruption has been sneaked into the government from top to bottom, the anti-graft institutions like State Accountability Commission (SAC) have virtually make non functional", Mahajan observed and reiterated demand of PDP that SAC should be equipped with an independent investigating agency to ensure proper investigation of the cases against higher ups. Mocking the present regime Former MLC said that biggest achievements of the present National Conference led regime was legalization of corruption and added during the last four years this regime has patronized corruption and encourage corrupt elements. He also lambasted the coalition regime for its failure to execute developmental schemes in remotest backward areas. He observed that various schemes, launched by the government for the development of backward areas, remained only on papers. Speaking on the occasion PDP leader regretted that residents of the backward and far-flung areas were the burst victim of government non serious attitude towards executing development programmes. PDP leader said that PMGSY programme which was aimed at connecting inaccessible areas through road connectivity with the nearby towns has virtually came to halt in the remotest areas. He reiterating resolve of the party to make institutional arrangement to curb the menace of corruption in the government and administration said that PDP during its regime made SAC and other institutions functional to curb corruption. Davinder Sharma, Harbans Bral, Behari Lal and others also spoke on the occasion. |
