| Ceasefire violation at LoC: India, Pak exchange fire | | | POONCH/MENDHAR, Feb 9: After a lull for a fortnight, Pakistan troops yet again violated ceasefire and targeted many Indian forward posts with heavy weapons in forward Krishna Ghati sector of Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district. After DGMO level talks between both the armies, there was peace on Line of Control (LoC) but after over a fortnight, there was exchange of fire between two sides. Reports said that Pak army once again violated ceasefire using heavy weapons by resorting to firing using Rocket launchers, mortars, MMGs and other heavy weapons on six to eight Indian forward posts along the LoC. Locals confirmed that Pakistan army was targeting forward Indian post and local population. The sound of firing could be heard in Poonch and Chandak creating a panic among inhabitants of this border district. Few families from border village Salotri migrated towards Poonch. Official sources said that Pak troops targeted forward Indian Posts Kirpan, Ghoda, Roshni, Dogra, Gun Hill, Ravi and Chajja Maan in Krishna Ghati sector at around 7.45 PM this evening. Pakistani troops of 657 Baloch opened fire from their forward posts and the cross border firing continued till late night. Indian Army troops of 3 Grenadier guarding the LoC initially exercised restraint however when heavy weaponry was used by Pak troops, they also retaliated with equal caliber. A senior army officer said Pak army carried on unprovoked firing from their Roza, Chuha, Kadu, Kas, Battal, Nagi, Ruchika and Daku Posts on Indian forward posts and violated ceasefire. "Our troops initially exercised restrain however as the firing continued, our troops gave a befitting reply to them." He said on February 6 and 7, Indian troops had noticed movement of suspected persons along LoC and had opened fire to push them back.
