Srinagar, Mar 13: A father of three daughters was killed in Zoonimar area of Srinagar on Wednesday when
CRPF men fired upon him from a close range. Another person injured in CRPF firing is being treated in hospital. CRPF has claimed that fire was opened for protection as hundreds of people had surrounded CRPF vehicle at Saidapora and resorted to heavy stone pelting.
Eyewitnesses said that several CRPF personnel injured in Bemina shoot out were being shifted to SKIMS for treatment in vehicles when some boys shouted at CRPF personnel who fired on them in anger which resulted in the death of Altaf Ahmed Wani son of Abdul Ahad Wani," an eyewitness said adding that one more youth was injured in CRPF firing.
According to reports after leaving the youth in pool of blood CRPF personnel of 73rd battalion fled from the spot. The youth was rushed to Sher-i-Kashmir Medical Institute where he succumbed to his injuries. "Yes, a youth namely Altaf Ahmed Wani was brought in critical condition in our hospital and he succumbed to his injuries.
Two bullets had pierced his chest and we could not save him," SKIMS Control Room official told. Meanwhile refuting such allegations, Inspector General CRPF, V.S Yadav said that our men were on way to SKIMS to donate blood to their colleagues who had been critically injured in Bemina shoot out. "As the party reached at Saidapora, people surrounded it and pelted stones on the men. To save themselves from the wrath of the people, our men were compelled to resort to firing," he said. Meanwhile, huge procession was taken out in Zoonimar and hundreds of people participated in last rites of the deceased amid anti-India slogans. Police resorted to teargas shelling to disperse the agitated youth.
