`Assembly held hostage by anti-Indian forces'
3/14/2013 12:40:06 AM

ET Plus Report
JAMMU, Mar 13: J&K Assembly has been held hostage by forces which contest elections by swearing in the Indian constitution but are not only inimical to the Indian State and leave no opportunity to demean and humiliate Indian people.
Playing politics over the hanging of Afzal Guru, every MLA from the Kashmir region has left no stone unturned to blame the Indian State for what they term as illegal hanging.
MY Tarigami, who didn't cast vote in favour of lone Kashmiri Pandit contesting MLC elections, speaks volumes about the return of KPs to Valley. Making a statement in the Assembly he said that Union Home Minister SK Shinde has disrespected the Assembly and brought shame to the Parliament.
Things didn't stop here. The process was started when Omar Abdullah, who heads the State, had called 'Guru Sahib'. This was enough a cue for his opponents to become more vociferous in a competitive politics to malign Indian Government. MLAs of the principal opposition party did not prefix Hon'ble to Prime Minister, which they do while referring to any MLA. But Saheb was prefixed to Guru. Javed Mustafa Mir even went to the extent of saying a conspiracy has been hatched against Guru Sahib. As if this was not enough, they even went to the extent of saying that Home Minister had humiliated the State Assembly.
The underlying message of such statements was that Centre should treat J&K as a separate entity and should take permission from this Assembly, nay, Kashmir based politicians before taking any action. Dissent is an integral part of the democracy but dissent has to be done in an honorable manner and not at the cost of undermining the sovereignty of the Indian State.
Engineer Rashid tops the list of such persons. He is making every statement in the House which Jamat-i-Islami wanted to say but could not say as they had not contested the elections. He is acting as a spokesperson of Jamat and other separatists. This is not only demeaning the institution but also sending a message across the world that J&K Assembly, representing people of the State, is not interested in being part of the country and this is dangerous.
