Bashir Assad JAMMU, Mar 13: Opposition People’s Democratic party (PDP) today announced to boycott the remaining session of the State legislature in protest against the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde's statement that body of Mohammad Afzal Guru would not be returned to his family. The PDP president Mehbooba Mufti amid din in the House during question hour today said: "Sense of the House was conveyed to the Government of India but the Home Minister was most arrogant and he insulted the House so there is no reason to attend this session now onwards," Mehbooba said that demand for return of mortal remains of Guru was a human issue, it should not be given religious colour. "I congratulate Panthers Party, they raised the issue of Chamail Singh in the House and demanded that his mortal remains should be brought back from Pakistan and handed over to his family, there is some movement on the issue, there is information that his body is being returned by Pakistan," said Mehbooba adding that if Pakistan which is our neighboring country could return the Chamail Singh's body why not India, our own country. "Tell me sir where shall we go now, If in Gandhi's country such is the treatment to the Kashmir people and their elected representatives, what shall we do," said Mehbooba adding that it was unfortunate that Home Minister is so arrogant and that too with the elected representatives of the people. Pointing towards ruling National Conference Mehbooba said, "The people were expecting from us that at least they can press for the return of mortal remains of Guru and you have brought Kashmiri people to their knees". "You allowed them to hang Guru, now the Home Minister is saying that situation will deteriorate if the body is returned, why didn't you realize this when he (Guru) was hanged what for you are here," Mehbooba cried at Treasury benches. When Higher Education Minister, Mohammad Akbar Lone and Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Nazir Gurezi objected to these remarks, PDP members shouted at them raising slogans and announcing that the PDP will boycott the rest of the budget session in protest. Talking to media persons outside the Assembly, Mehbooba flanked by her party legislators including Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, Nizamudding Bhat, AR Veeri, Sayed Basharat Bukhari, Peerzada Mansur Hussain, Rafi Ahmad Mir, Muhammad Khalil Band, Dr. Shafi Ahmad, Choudary Zulfkar Ali, Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan, Abdul Razaq Zawoora, Sayed Bashir Ahmad, Javed Mustafa Mir, Zahoor Ahmad Mir and Mushtaq Ahmad Shah to said the Home Minister has closed all the roads leading to reconciliation and has added insult to the injuries of the Kashmiri people. "First he (Guru) was hanged selectively while picking him up from serial number 28 from the convicts who were on death row in connivance with the National Conference Government and now the Home Minister says that situation will deteriorate if body is returned back," said PDP president adding further that the hanging was carried out just to score brawny political points over BJP. " Shinde was under fire on his Saffron terror remarks so he choose a Muslim convict selectively to score political points" said Mehbooba adding that NC was a share holder in this decision. |
