Jammu, Mar 13: The Air Force Station Jammu organised a `Cancer Detection Camp' under the aegis of the Air Force Wife Welfare Association (Local) today to screen ladies of the Air Force Station Jammu for breast and cervical cancer. The camp was inaugurated by Mrs. Mamta Patange the President AFWWA(L). The venue of the camp was the Station Medicare Centre, Jammu. During the camp, apart from screening the ladies for the two types of cancer, Self Breast Examination technique was also explained and taught to the ladies. This technique helps in the early detection of breast cancer and enables the immediate intervention by medical authorities, thereby avoiding the un-checked progression of the disease within the body. During the camp, PAP smear examination was also done for all the `Sanginis' between the age of 35 to 49 years to ensure timely detection of cervical cancer as well. A large number of ladies of the station actively participated in the camp and their awareness on health and cancer related issues, was evident. Cancer is a cause of serious concern among medical authorities worldwide, who are constantly engaged in research for advancement in techniques for detection as well as treatment of the debilitating disease, which manifests itself in many forms and targets various organs of the body. The spread of awareness about the disease, and its early detection, go a long way in enabling its effective treatment, before its progression to a terminal stage. The ladies of Air Force Station Jammu, under the leadership of Mrs. Mamta Patange President AFWWA(L) took a significant step in this direction today. The Senior Medical officer of Air Force Staion Jammu also delivered a lecture regarding awareness of the cancer amongst the ladies. Mrs Mamta Patange interacted with all the Sanginis and encouraged them to get regularly screened for breast and cervical cancers. She informed that such camps will be conducted on regular basis for benefit for all the ladies of Air Force Station Jammu. |
