JAMMU, Mar 13: Notwithstanding the ordinary Sports Association `owners', the high profile individuals, including the Joint Secretary, have `disobeyed' the State Sports Council directive with regard to submission of annual calendar of activities. Issued well in advance to all the 52 affiliated sports associations, the letter seeking domestic calendar of activities for 2013-2014 has not been taken seriously. "The letter issued by the concerned office had asked the Associations to submit their proposed calendar (domestic) of activities latest by February 28. But, unfortunately, only 15 such proposals have been received till date," an official of the Sports Council told SAN. Such proposals (calendar of activities) are required for timely sanction of funds for the next financial year. "These Associations approach Council at the eleventh hour to seek funding, instead of submitting the proposals in advance," he further said. Leaving a side the ordinary persons, even the Joint Secretary of the State Sports Council, Siddharth Sharma, who is president of the J&K Billiards and Snooker Association, has `disobeyed' the directive. Furthermore, four of the six members of the highest decision making Standing Committee of the Council too failed to get the calendar of activities, of their respective associations, submitted in given time. These members are Siddharth Sharma (Billiards and Snooker), Sheikh Fazal Ahmed (Gymnastics), Prof BA Shah (Football) and Ramesh Mahajan (J&K Olympic Association). Moreover, Associations run by senior members of the present Sports Council too have not responded to the circular. These included Table Tennis (Ajay Sharma), Wrestling (Dushyant Sharma), Handball (SM Bali) and Indian Style Wrestling (Shiv Kumar). However, 15 affiliated associations have submitted their calendar of activities in the stipulated time. These included Athletics, Judo, Boxing, Volleyball, Fencing, Cycling, Korfball, Chess, Weightlifting, Tennis Ball Cricket, Thang Tha, Baseball, Hockey, Mountaineering, Kabaddi and Yoga. |
