Infighting relegates Congress to play second fiddle in coalition
4/13/2013 12:14:41 AM

ET Plus Report
JAMMU, Apr 12: The ruling National Conference is taking benefit of the "fierce" infighting among senior Congress leaders of the State. On one hand National Conference leadership is successfully implementing its own Kashmir centric agenda where party has been facing tough challenge from arch rival PDP, while on the other hand party has "tactically" shifted blames on Congress for the failure of the Government to deliver.
The factions ridden Congress on the other hand failed to even effectively highlight agenda of the party in Government. Authoritative sources said that National Conference leadership has successfully convinced Congress high command that it was all due to the infighting among Congress leaders that functioning of the Government was badly affecting. Sources said that on the one hand National Conference leadership has complained Congress high command about infighting in the State unit while on the other hand party (National Conference) has been fuelling factionalism in the Congress party so that party continue to enjoy power without any interruption.
Not only functioning of the Government has been affecting due to groupism in the Congress party, the Congress is also forced to play second fiddle in the coalition because due to infighting, party leadership is finding it difficult to implement its agenda in the Government.
The National Conference-Congress coalition regime has completed its four years and three months tenure but the Congress leadership has so far failed to get its agenda implemented in the Government because party Ministers have divergent views on vital issues which pertain to the ideology of the Congress party.
Although the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir is divided between two factions- one headed by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Saif ud Din Soz and another group which claims themselves as supporters of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, there are groups within the groups which ultimately led to "virtual chaos" in the State unit of party.
Sources in the Congress said that party leaders have realised that coalition partner National Conference was taking benefit of their infighting but they were not ready to shun their ego.
