KISHTWAR, Apr 12: A group of at least six unidentified armed personnels believed to be militants late last night kidnapped two youths from village Nagnigard of Keshwan some 45 KM from District Headquarter Kishtwar.
According to reports, the armed men enter into the village at around 10 PM on Thursday night and later picked up two youths identified as Akthar Hussain Hajam (28 yrs) son of Ali Mohammad Hajam and Ashiq Hussain (30 yrs) alias Guard son of Nakki Hajam both of Nagnigard Keshwan from their residence. The reports said that all the gunmen were dressed in Salwar-Kameez and after kidnapping Akthar Hussain and Ashiq Hussain, all disappeared in nearby forest area under the cover of darkness.
DIG Doda-Kishtwar range Ashkoor Ahmed Wani while talking to "Early Time Plus" said that police and Army had launched a major search operation to find out the two missing youths. "We are ascertaining the reports whether both have joined the militancy ranks or they have actually been kidnapped". He said that police is also verifying the claims about the reports of movement of militants in the area. "It is premature to confirm the reports of involvement of any gunmen--- But I can confirm that the two youths are missing from their homes," added Wani.
Meanwhile, the police sources informed "Early Time Plus" that Ashiq Hussain Hajam remained an active OGW of Lashkar militant outfit in the area till the organization was wiped out with the elimination of LeT district commander Habib Gujjar. He was suspected by the militant sympathizers as a source of security forces involved in killing of Habib Gujjar.
It is worthwhile to mention here that Keshwan belt of Kishtwar district was known as a hot bed of Lashkar militant outfit, but with the elimination of LeT district commander Habib Gujjar in August 2011, the area was declared as militancy free zone. Reports coming from the area in recent past suggested the movement of some armed militants shifting its hideout in between Keshwan and Marmat areas of Doda district.
