| Sadhotra seeks societal support in maintaining ecology | | | JAMMU: Minister for Planning and Development Mr Ajay Kumar Sadhotra on Wednesday called for launching a mega drive for conserving environment and creating awareness on the crucial need of saving earth for posterity by fighting the pollution. “Environmental degradation is a biggest challenge to the humanity” the Minister said at a function held in observance of the World Earth Day here this morning. The function was organised by the Amar Ujala Group of Publications. The observance of the day commenced with the plantation of a sapling by the Minister which was followed by a well organised plantation drive by the Amar Ujala Group. The Minister appreciated the effort, saying participation of the society as a whole in the gigantic initiative of saving the environment is imperative as the government alone cannot achieve the set targets. He exhorted the people to take extra measures in keeping their surrounding green and clean for the better growth of the society. “Healthy atmosphere is healthy for the harmonious society”, he maintained and hoped that the initiative of the Amar Ujala Group will inspire and motivate others to take up this noble cause. The Minister also underscored the need for generating awareness on environmental safeguards and hoped that media houses can play a pivotal role in this regard. He expressed happiness over the private sector realizing its social responsibility and coming forward in supplementing the governmental efforts. Mr Sadhotra said the government has taken several measures to ensure afforstation across the state and generating awareness on growing more trees. This is vital for keeping the environs clean, he said adding that great onus, however, lies on the people to carry forward this mission for overall good of the society. |
